Compared with traditional pipe fittings, fiberglass re-forced/FRP/GRP pipes have significantly improved in both process and processing quality, as evidenced by their widespread advantages in application. By comparison, it can be seen that the quality and quotation of this type of fiberglass pipe fittings are still significantly different from other traditional carbon steel or stainless steel fittings. When analyzing market manufacturers, it is necessary to grasp the characteristics and requirements of fiberglass pipes.
Characteristics of fiberglass re-forced/FRP/GRP pipes
1. Good corrosion resistance and long service life
Fiberglass reinforced plastic pipes can resist long-term corrosion from various acids, alkalis, salts, organic solvents, seawater, sewage, and other chemical substances. According to different media types and working temperatures, pipes with different performance can be selected.
2. Excellent mechanical performance
Fiberglass re-forced/FRP/GRP pipes have a low specific gravity (1.8 ± 2.1g/Cm3) and high strength, far higher than steel pipes and cast iron pipes. Adding resin mortar to the middle layer of the pipe wall greatly improves the rigidity of the pipe, making it suitable for various soil environments and seabed laying.
3. Excellent hydraulic performance
The inner surface of fiberglass pipes is very smooth, with low frictional resistance (n ≤ 0.0084), which can significantly reduce pressure loss along the pipeline and increase flow rate. Under the same flow rate, smaller caliber or lower power pumps can be selected to reduce initial investment in the project, save energy consumption (and reduce operating costs).
4. Good design and wide application range
By changing the design of material selection, winding angle, and number of layers, fiberglass pipes with different pressure levels and special properties can be manufactured to meet the requirements of different working pressures, media, and stiffness (or burial depth).
5. Anti-fouling
The smooth inner wall does not scale, does not breed microorganisms such as algae, and has no secondary pollution to water quality. Pipes made of resin can be used to transport drinking water.
6. Few joints, good sealing performance
The length of a single fiberglass pipe is generally 12m and is connected with a double O-ring. Each interface can be reliably pressure tested and sealed.
7. Lightweight, easy to transport and install
The weight of fiberglass pipes is only 1/4 of ductile iron pipes of the same specification and length, and 1/10 of cement pipes. Convenient transportation, loading and unloading, high installation efficiency, and low cost.
